Daffy Trash Sorting

With the improvements in recycling made by the Nantucket Public Works Department in 2019, new public trash bins with signage for better sorting appeared across the Island. ReMain supported this enterprise through several outreach efforts, including at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual Daffodil Festival Sconset Picnic. ReMain staff members volunteered to work with the hundreds of picnickers and revelers at the event. Armed with instructional flyers for proper sorting, color-coded garbage bags, and a colorful sorting station at a central location, patrons quickly learned of the improvements and were eager to do their part.

The Chamber of Commerce will further improve efforts to assure proper trash sorting is an integral part of their festival programming for years to come. Moreover, they are looking to make every effort to instill better trash sorting at other public events.
